Lost entries...how can I recover them?
« on: March 17, 2021, 07:21:40 am »
I'm running the TT personal version, have been using for March Madness for about 15 years.  I always do the "deploy via web" option and load my players picks "load web picks from TurboTourney.com".  Last night I downloaded and imported a new batch of entries, and as always I check not to include these again the next time so as not to have to deal with the hassle of duplicates.  However before I could save and backup my Tourney file my laptop crashed...of course.  And now when I go to download entries those are not there to re-import.  Yes, I know I told it not to re-import the next time...but now I'm stuck.

Is there a way to get access to those entries again without having to tell players to re-enter them from scratch?  I'm not even exactly sure which people it affected.  I tried checking out the Control Panel option, but because I didn't have this set up prior it doesn't look like something that will help me.

I thought I might have a couple of lost entries to my second chance pool. I have 36 entrants. After reading the process using the control panel, I tried the download option and later the email option for retrieving lost entries. Both of those indicate that I have 38 entries, although only 36 appear as players. Is there another way to check, either by name or email, everyone who completed the online entry process? Thanks.

Sounds like you have 2 people who submitted entries using the same information.  What are you doing when a duplicate entry is found?  It sounds like you are updating the existing entry and not creating a new one which would result in 38 total entries ending up as 36 final entries accepted since 2 of them were duplicates.

That has been very confusing. In the main pool, I started updating. Then I started creating another name, like John Doe (2). I still had all sorts of problems. Sometimes, an entrant would appear on the next import, even though it had already been added in my pool. There just seems to be some odd glitch. For this particular problem, I was concerned because a guy emailed me to say that he entered the second chance pool but I don't have his name. Since there was the 2 player discrepancy, I thought maybe entries got lost. I honestly don't know. If he had missed the deadline, would his name not have been available to be imported? I assume that's the case.
Is there an option to re-enter players by the email addresses they used when they created their entry?
Thanks for your help.
Neil

If they had missed the deadline their entry would not be in the import at all.  Were you marking entries as retrieved after loading them?  If not, they would keep appearing in the import OR if they were refreshed and possibly submitted a duplicate entry.  Entries can only be imported based on whatever you choose as your primary player field.. the default being Name.

I believe I imported my entries correctly and I always chose yes when asked so I wouldn't import them again. We tell people who enter multiple times to add a different number to their name but the program still calls them duplicates. Many times it will accept Smith, John1 but not Smith, John2. It sees the second as a duplicate. Then as I was importing I would change the name to Smith, John3 or something else. But they would all be imported and I'd have to delete the duplicate players from the list. That happened throughout the tournament. It involved much more babysitting of the program than should be necessary since I can't trust it to work properly. Hopefully next year I will have better luck. Thanks.
